Barnowl Strathaven 1991-92 – DVCREW SCOTLAND

Barn Owl (sometimes written Barnowl) was an early-90s rave held in he countryside near Strathaven a rural, barn/warehouse-style party common in the underground scene in 1991 and 1992 in remote areas across Scotland. we have some contemporary video footage and short clips amongst our archive tapes showing the event and the crowd, we didnt know what we were dong this was all new to us we wanted to just film as much of it as possible to try make up a video later on.

These archive clips include walkabout footage and performance clips — one specific clip tags Q-TEX (a Scottish/UK techno/hardcore act) at Barnowl in 1992, which matches the harder-edged rave sound that scene favoured in that period. The footage and posts suggest the event had the usual elements of early-90s raves: big crowds, industrial/rural venue, resident and guest DJs, and the kind of one-off parties DV crews filmed around Scotland at the time. Because Barnowl was part of the underground/old-skool circuit, formal press coverage is sparse — most surviving records are video clips, social posts and memory posts from our DVarchives rather than newspaper reports.
