About – DVCREW SCOTLAND

About

In 1991, armed with drink, battery belts, lights, and cameras, Paul & Linda were turning up to nearly every rave across Scotland—from LOVE at the Plaza to the massive Streetrave airport events. Their motto? “Film till closure.”
A glimpse inside their studio reveals the creative brain and technical hustle that powered their vision.

They captured some of Scotland’s most legendary raves, including Streetrave’s now-iconic terminal raves at Prestwick, where thousands danced among check-in desks under surreal lights. Their footage remains the definitive visual record of that historic era.

The carnival-like aesthetic of these raves—laser shows, sci-fi motifs, robots—was echoed in promotional flyers and captured through DVcrew’s raw lens. That same energy spilled over in design choices and visuals across clubs like Rezerection and TechnoTrance.

By 1999, life pulled them away—changing careers, family commitments, and a shifting scene meant the cameras went quiet. A decade passed. Meanwhile, old ravers reconnected on Bebo, sparking nostalgia and renewed interest.  Paul, now a carer to his mother, started uploading clips to Bebo and YouTube. Frustrated by their limitations, he partnered with a student sound engineer and web developer, Marc McLean, to create a proper platform.  Together, they embarked on a colossal undertaking: rescuing hundreds of deteriorating tapes—many unlabeled, damp, physically damaged, or suffering from fading ink and beer spills. Digitization posed its own challenges: dusty tape heads ruined footage, random on-off cuts meant syncing was a nightmare. Still, Paul and Marc’s vision is to show the world how Scotland raved in the 1990’s
